“Re-discover” Latin America for yourself, at the Latin American Studies Program

Be on the edge of discovery as political and economic events intensify the relationship between Latin America and North America.  Classroom work in the U.S. cannot compare with the opportunity to live and study in Latin America.  Through homestays, field studies, and lively classroom exchanges, program participants are exposed to and encouraged to develop relationships with Latin American experts and ordinary citizens discussing how the power and influence of the United States touch virtually every sphere of their lives. They also address the causes of, and responses to poverty, racism, sexism, violence, and human rights abuse in their countries.

LASP gives you the opportunity to leave your familiar North American campus to explore reality firsthand in today's troubled world, and with these experiences, to become more secure with your place and role in it. No one completes this program with "the answers" but you will become better equipped with more of the right questions and some tools to help you grapple more effectively with them. Consider joining LASP in order to “re-discover” Latin America for yourself!

LASP Mission

To cultivate a Christ-centered community of critical thinking learner-scholars from multiple disciplines, that seeks to expand global awareness and integrate Kingdom values via experiential learning in the Latin American context, challenging students to respectfully engage our host cultures and strive for academic excellence.

The program is designed for Christian students who will endeavor to integrate their faith and values with knowledge and experience. It is for those who aspire to explore more deeply for themselves what God requires of His followers and what it means to act on what they learn in all areas of life. The overarching goal of LASP is to prepare students to live the Christian life in a world that is multi-ethnic and multi-cultural.
